"I don't even know what's going on in the world," admits Marco Gianni, speaking from his audience's heart, relieving them and allowing them an inner "me neither!" with a clear conscience. "I don't watch the news," he continues, leaving the pause just long enough and finally dropping the punchline: "I don't know what season we're on right now." The young man with Italian roots performs his observations on the human condition in front of a large audience with the kind of casual precision that is usually only found in older cabaret veterans. Yet the stage has only recently become his new profession, and he became known to people on Instagram, YouTube and TikTok with an approach that no influencer agency could dream up. A twist that was created on the sofa during the pandemic, smartphone in hand and spurred on by the affected stupidity of the poses and the contrived way in which influencers in particular stage their supposed lives. The feigned enthusiasm for sponsored products, but also the insinuation that the audience must be similarly flashed by everyday plot points in the lives of influencers as by cliffhangers in an exciting series - Marco Gianni found all of this as embarrassing and cringeworthy as the behavior of poor Truman Burbank's fellow human beings in The Truman Show. So he started to make fun of it as Reactor and play up the desired reactions of the fans of those influencers that no human being can have in all seriousness The formula, which was not a formula, but just the fire of amused anger, caught fire. Around two million followers join him on social media in getting worked up about the illusory world. In his stage programs, in turn, he puts his finger in the wounds of real life by putting people on stage in a very similar way and fooling others as well as themselves. According to Marco, nobody goes to board game evenings because of the board games, but only because of the alcohol. Parents really think of their children as ungrateful brats and naturally expect something in return for at least two decades of sacrifice. The Berlin-based comedian also draws on his own experiences for his razor-sharp exaggerations of everyday life. You can literally see little Gianni in the teenage room of a bi-German friend, rubbing his eyes in confusion at the fact that he can chase his mother around like an intern. That wouldn't have happened with Mama Gianni. He sheds light on his own vanity when he delays an extra ten seconds on the way to the door, as if he hadn't already been waiting behind it for the disillusioned pizza delivery man. Without politics, without discourse, deep down in everyday life, Marco Gianni is definitely about something. Whether in his videos online or in his storytelling on stage, this young man demonstrates how we constantly paint a picture of ourselves with our wounded egos that is so far too high for everyone that our souls become stretched. He not only shows how naked the emperor is, but also all his subjects.
